MUAA Board

Miami University Alumni Association Advisory Board of Directors

The Miami University Office of Alumni Relations, under the Division of University Advancement, manages day-to-day alumni programming and communication, and represents alumni as part of the university’s decision-making processes. It is the role of the Miami University Alumni Association (MUAA) Advisory Board of Directors to provide guidance and input to the alumni office and other university officials with respect tohow alumni involvement may be increased and their collective talents and resources leveraged. In addition, MUAA Board members serve an important role as ambassadors to the broader alumni community through leadership and participation.


The MUAA Board serves to:

  • Provide opportunities for engaged alumni to serve the university;
  • Support the strategic goals of the alumni office and Miami University;
  • Increase alumni engagement;
  • Aid in the advancement of the university;
  • Give of their time, talent and resources to further the efforts of the university;
  • Lead by example of the ideal engagement of Miami alumni.

The Advisory Board is committed to a diverse membership of volunteers (including but not limited to race, ethnicity, age, gender, interests, backgrounds and location) to act as servant-leaders with the broadest reach and skill base to represent Miami’s more than 220,000 alumni.

Membership Expectations:


Participation

Members regularly and actively attend board and committee meetings. To assist with flexibility, board meetings are scheduled in advance, and committee meetings that arise throughout the year are virtual format and by poll for availability. Active participation (sharing and listening) at each attended full board and committee meeting is encouraged to make service a fulfilling experience.

Advisement

Members lend their post-graduation personal and professional expertise toward advancing the goals of the alumni office, the MUAA Board and the university in general.

Engagement

Members are typically drawn from alumni who have been actively involved and have supported alumni programs in a variety of forms. Members are expected to sustain or increase their commitment to such initiatives. These include but are not limited to the following: admissions, mentoring, Miami Alumni Connect, chapters, groups, special events, social media (MBassador), reunion committee, annual giving, professional development and lifelong learning.

Inclusive Excellence

Members will espouse the University’s mission to advance inclusive excellence and promote a welcoming community for all.

Investment

Members support the MUAA with an annual financial contribution at a personal comfort capacity. An annual contribution based on personal means serves to enhance support and demonstrate commitment to the success of Miami University as well as to the importance of regular, sustained giving by all alumni.

Knowledge

Members familiarize themselves with the programs and activities sponsored, organized and coordinated by the Office of Alumni Relations and participate in them to the extent possible. They stay abreast of campus news by reading alumni publications (monthly enews, Miamian, social media) and other University material.

Leadership

Members serve as alumni representatives at select Miami University events locally, regionally, virtually and in Oxford, including but not limited to: chapter or group events, class reunions, Alumni Weekend, Homecoming, sporting events, webinars. Members identify potential alumni volunteers and leaders within the broader alumni and university community for volunteer opportunities and/or recognition.

Nomination to the board
