What is Grandparents College?

Grandmother and granddaughter at You're Fired

Grandparents College is an exciting opportunity to share three memorable and fun days with your grandchildren living the college life! Stay in a residence hall, eat in the dining hall, choose a major, go to class and participate in engaging and hands-on activities! Grandparents College gives you a chance to relive your college days, see what’s new on campus and show your Miami pride to your grandchildren, all while creating lifelong memories! Grandparents College is open for children between ages 8-12 who are accompanied by at least one grandparent(s) or older adult relative(s) who graduated from Miami. Please be sure to read the Frequently Asked Questions section for more information!

Frequently Asked Questions

Majors

Grandparents College offers three “majors” taught by MU faculty and staff from disciplines across campus. You and your grandchild will stay together in the same major for the entire three-day program. An adult must accompany each child at all times during the activities related to the major.

It’s not all about the classroom during Grandparents College! We have large group activities planned at different locations across campus. The levels of physical activity required to participate in these activities vary.

New this year: In an effort to be as fair and equitable as possible to both new and returning guests, all participants will be asked to rank their preferences of major (STEM, Arts and Culture, Miami Plan) during the registration process and will be assigned a major. Major assignments are no longer made on a first-come, first-served basis.
