MUSF 50th Anniversary

Miami University Student Foundation 50th Anniversary Seal

Stay up to date with MUSF 50th Anniversary details!

Join us in the midst of celebrating 50 years of “Students helping students: past, present and future.”

The Miami University Student Foundation was imagined in the Fall of 1972, with official acknowledgment by the University in the Spring of 1973. MUSF’s first full year as a student organization on campus was 1973-74, which is why we will be celebrating 50 years during 2023-24!

Anniversary Celebration: June 7-9, 2024 in Oxford, Ohio

Throughout the decades MUSF has stayed true to its mission and has built a vibrant student philanthropic community to rally together, raise funds, and provide financial support to many Miami students. The foundation also continues to cultivate student leaders, fulfill campus needs and strengthen our Miami community through high standards of leadership, devotion to the unity of our community, and a strong passion and love for Miami. Members of the Miami alumni community whose campus experience pre-dated MUSF have even found themselves drawn to the mission and leadership of the organization.

Ways to Engage

As MUSF celebrates its 50th anniversary this year through various local and virtual events, culminating in an on-campus reunion during Alumni Weekend 2024, current and former Moose are invited to commemorate the golden occasion however they are able, whether as an event attendee, engaged community member, or donor to two priority initiatives: Endowing MUSF Scholarships and Bolstering Programmatic Support.

Contribute to the Moose Book

Ready or not, the Miami University Student Foundation celebrates its 50-year reunion next year at Alumni Weekend, June 7-9, 2024! It will be a memorable and nostalgic event, and we hope you make plans to join your fellow moose!

In honor of this special occasion, the MUSF 50th Committee has provided an opportunity for a digital memory book composed of old photos and campus event remembrances. The main feature of the book, though, are biographies and photos of you and your classmates.

Please take a few minutes to reflect on your life since graduation and share an update with your fellow MUSF alumni. Surprises, opportunities, setbacks, and miracles, you have experienced all sorts of milestones since your time at Miami! Tell us about your journey or share some of your favorite memories from your time on campus.

Ways to support MUSF

Endowing MUSF Scholarships

Through fundraising events like the 20/20 Bike Race, Family Weekend Auction, and Chicago Bus Trips, MUSF generates profits (averaging $20,000 per year) that are directed into the MUSF Scholarship Endowed Fund. The endowment has grown to over $500,000, and the interest generated from the fund is used to award eight $2,500 scholarships each year. MUSF students are currently working toward a goal to fund two additional scholarships, ensuring that at least ten students will receive MUSF scholarships each year. MUSF alumni want to help MUSF students take it a step further. An ambitious but attainable goal to double the endowment to at least $1 million would enable the fund to distribute approximately $40,000 each year, providing 10 awards of $4,000 annually. This means each MUSF scholarship would cut the cost of in-state tuition for a student by almost 25%.

Bolstering Programmatic Support

MUSF has certain annual expenditures in order to support its activities, such as the purchase of team jerseys and warm-up equipment for the 20/20 race. At various times in its history, members have paid dues to cover some of the costs. Additionally, the MUSF Program Support Fund was created and endowed to be used for member activities and programming each year so that the majority of the proceeds from fundraisers can go into the scholarship fund, rather than be used to underwrite the costs of events. Our goal is to raise an additional $100,000 for the MUSF Program Support Fund, so that in the future it would distribute enough money each year to eliminate the need to ever charge membership dues and enable the program's continued growth.
