During the event from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at 421 S. Campus Ave., guests will be invited to tour the new home of three academic programs and explore the three wings of clinics, state-of-the-art classrooms, and simulation labs.
The $96 million building, west of Phillips Hall, houses the Physician Associate Studies program, Nursing, and Speech Pathology and Audiology department, and the Speech and Hearing Clinic, as well as the offices of Student Counseling Service, Student Wellness, and Health Services for students, faculty, and staff.
With its focus on collaboration and the latest technology, the building epitomizes the “Clinical Health Sciences - we will care” cornerstone of the university’s fundraising campaign, For love. For honor. For those who will, said Steve Large, assistant vice president of health and wellness in the Division of Student Life.
“Miami has heeded the call to the national nursing shortage,” added Stephanie Nicely ’99 BS ’00, chair of Miami’s Department of Nursing, which has increased its enrollment by nearly 250% since 2017. This semester the program has its largest incoming freshman class in its history.
The new facility is strategically located directly west of Phillips Hall, which houses the Kinesiology and Health program, and north of the Rec Center/Rec Sports and Goggin Ice Center, both of which you can see here outside Student Counseling Service’s second-floor waiting area.
