Supporting the Miami NROTC Alumni Organization

You can show your support for Miami NROTC by making a gift to one of two funds, the Midshipmen Leadership Development Fund or the Souers Distinguished Alumni Award Fund.

Midshipmen Leadership Development Fund

The Midshipmen Leadership Development Fund is a fund that enables Miami University midshipmen to attain "an extra margin of leadership excellence" for effectiveness as future commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps. Private contributions of NROTC alumni and others provide access to leadership and character development activities that create direct and explicit leadership skills for these soon-to-be officers.   Supporting this fund neither replaces nor reduces the U.S. Navy's financial responsibility, it complements, reinforces, expands and assures Miami's NROTC tradition and reputation of a "cut above" officer preparation.  To make an online gift to the Midshipmen Leadership Development Fund, please click here.

Souers Distinguished Alumni Award Fund

The Souers Distinguished Alumni Award Fund has been established to assist with the administration of the annual Admiral Sidney W. Souers Distinguished Alumni Award. The Souers Award is named for Miami Class of 1913 alumnus, Rear Admiral Sidney W. Souers, who interrupted a most successful business career to serve in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Following the war, Admiral Souers remained in government service as the executive secretary of the National Security Council and then as the first director of the Central Intelligence Agency before resuming his career in the private sector.  Admiral Souers died in 1973, and the Souers Award was created in 1977 with a bequest form his widow, Sylvia. The Souers Award is presented annually to a Miami NROTC graduate who "distinguished him or herself within their chosen field of endeavor, be it military or civilian." You can view a list of past recipients of the Souers Award.  To make an online gift to the Souers Distinguished Alumni Award Fund, please click here.
