Class Notes

The crew from MUDEC ‘88, Kristi (Wertz) Maher ‘89, Bobby Blaha ‘89, Kim (Garlick) Meissner ‘89, Gregg Palaian ‘89 and Bernadette (Huddy) Geis ‘89 reunited for a weekend of laughter and memories at Kim’s place in Longboat Key, Florida. We were missing our good friends Dane Martin ‘89 and Matt Sanders ‘89. While the Zoom cocktail party was fun during Covid, it was much better to be back in person!

Class of ‘91

Lifetime friends, Mike “Gimp” Phelan, Kevin Jones, Brian Evans, Wes Wettengel, Gary Schnettler, and Tim Peterson travelled across the country to meet up in Joshua Tree National Forest for a reunion weekend. They met freshman year and have been friends ever since.

During October 2023 Miami friends (and former roommates) got together for a “mini-reunion” traveling to Portugal, France, and Switzerland. Here we are in the magical village of Annecy, France: Tamra Gory (79), Deja Likens (77), Teresa Cline (78), Sara Campbell (79), Marsha Schneider (79).

Kevin Ziegman ’85 of Elyria, Ohio, was able to meet up with John Harbaugh ’84 and Jay Peterson ’84 on the field at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Also there were his son, Bryce ’16; daughter, Colleen ’19; and his soon-to-be son-in-law, Michael Smosny, from OWU ’19.

The Lyres and Anchors’ annual gathering moved to Estes Park, Colorado, in August 2022 and the new home of Sharon Stahl Margiotta and David Margiotta. At the gathering, in addition to Sharon, were Jennifer Walsh Aderman, Jennifer Quillin Ventresco, Kelly Kurz Minichiello, Colleen Metzgar McNutt, Amy Dedricks Schermer, Sue Rice Olevitch, and Angie Villanueva. Missing: Beth Sweeney and Debbie Evans.

Matt Tobin ’82 arranged a gathering of cross-country alumni who graduated in the late 1970s and early ’80s, a span that includes several MAC titles. The reunion coincided with a home meet, the “RedHawk Rumble,” in which the year’s teams (men’s and women’s) defeated Indiana University and the University of Cincinnati on Sept. 3, 2022.

Jeff Horton (1985) and Denise Horton recently reunited with favorite Miami graduates included clockwise from top left: Sandy Bruggeman Allen (1986) and her husband John retired in Asheville North Carolina, Robin Donley Chavis (1985) and her husband Carl recently retired near Nashville Tennessee, Kay Hickey Hagaman (1985) still working and enjoying life in Florida, and Lisa Hermann Carlson (1985) and her husband Kurt, working, loving and living in St. Augustine Florida! It was heartfelt wonderful adventure spending time seeing where their lives have turned and grown since leaving Oxford!

What better place than Asheville, NC for these four alums to gather for barbecue? Dave Luecke '71, and WMUB veterans Jan Mason Getz '71, John Getz '71 and Leslie Dalton Laine '74 connected in October 2021 and look forward to our next visit counted in months, not decades.
