Roles of the Board
In addition to the Director roles outlined in the by-laws, additional roles may be adopted by the committee as needed by the President. These roles may include Newsletter Editor, Treasurer, Vice President, and Ex- Officio committee memberships. In addition, Director seats such as WCAA, Western 3.0, and Friends of Western may be included in the Board. Each Director should expect to co- chair a committee or take on a leadership role in at least one committee.
The WAAMU Board of Directors is voluntary and thus we are grateful for the commitment made by so many who feel strongly about the impact of Western, its people, land, education, and environment. Board members volunteer their time to ensure that the spirit of Western lives on. We put on events, like alumni weekend, send out communications, like newsletters and social media posts, and engage with students on projects and mentoring. Board members are expected to attend the yearly board meeting in June, as well as other meetings held quarterly.
The Western Alumni Association at Miami University (WAAMU) is a group supported by the Miami Alumni Association. WAAMU is committed to supporting current students, strengthening the Individualized Studies Program, and connecting alumni to one another.
