More than 1,600 alumni and friends of the university decided to “Meet Me @ Miami” for Alumni Weekend 2019.

As the Class of 1969 celebrated its 50th reunion, weekend attendees relived their favorite Miami memories – and made many new ones – from June 6-9. From packed rooms at Alumni College to numerous reunions and open houses, there were more than 75 events on campus and uptown. Attendees could dance the night away at ¡Locura! Latin Dance Night, work off the toasted rolls of the weekend during the annual 5K or the MOVE Boot Camp, and end the festivities with the Parade of Classes and MiamiFest, which featured the all-you-can-eat Taste of Miami and the Campus Owls Tribute Band.

“My years here at Miami and on the synchronized skating team were some of the best of my life,” said Rebecca Haag Czerw ’99, who celebrated her 20th reunion and the anniversary of Miami’s national championship in synchronized skating. “All of it holds a special place in my heart. I wanted to come back here and share it with my family.”

Several classes and groups held milestone reunions, including the Classes of 1994 and 2009, which celebrated their 25- and 10-year reunions, respectively. A total of 31 groups had 40 reunion events over the weekend, while 65 class years were represented, ranging from 1949-2018.

Christina Metz McDermott ’89 was in Oxford from Chicago for her 30th reunion as she reunited with former roommates from California, Indiana and Columbus.

“It’s just been fun to reconnect and bring back old memories,” she said.
