Miami Women's Sports Bicentennial Reunion

Calling all generations of Miami female student-athletes! As part of Miami’s Bicentennial Celebration, current students and alumnae are invited to a fantastic celebration of Miami Women’s Athletics during the weekend of Oct. 16-18. Miami’s Field Hockey and Volleyball teams will have competitions throughout the weekend, and guests will have the opportunity to attend open practices for Women’s Basketball and Women’s Track! Synchronized Skating will host an Open Family Skate at Goggin Ice Center, and Softball alumnae are encouraged to play in the Alumnae Game on Saturday!

In addition to all the athletic events, Miami will host a ‘Panel of Legends’ at 10a.m. Saturday, October 17. Female athletes from several eras will gather to discuss the history and future of women’s athletics at Miami. Following the Panel, all are welcome to attend a brunch in the multipurpose room at Shriver Center at 11:30a.m. The brunch will feature a pictorial history of women’s athletics at Miami, and former female athletes who played before 1990 will be presented letter awards. The brunch will feature guest speaker Elaine Hieber, who paved the way for women’s athletics at Miami and beyond. In 1974, Hieber joined Miami’s staff as an Assistant Athletic Director. During her time in Oxford she coached multiple sports, and despite limited resources she issued the first grant-in-aid scholarships for female student-athletes. She was inducted into Miami’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
