Miami has previously set up campus in Chicago (October 2008) and Cleveland (November 2009) for a remarkable day of “Classes without Quizzes” on a variety of fascinating topics ripped from today’s headlines. One Day U offers alumni and friends the opportunity to learn the latest on timely topics from leaders in their fields.

This class introduces participants to how Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn work. No experience is needed. Participants will learn the right and wrong ways to use these social networking tools and examine how these networks help participants keep in touch with old friends and family.

“From Sickness to Health: Health Reform in the Past, Present, and Implications for the Future”
The current national debate on health care reform is the same debate that has been aired since the Progressive Era, with renewed battles in the 1930s, 1940s, 1960s, and 1990s. Learn about why broad-based reform in the U.S. has never succeeded, and the implications the past has for the present and the future of U.S. health care.
“Lonely are the Brave: The Cleveland School Desegregation Movement”
Although viewed as a southern issue, school desegregation in Cleveland was a pervasive problem. Even before the 1960s, black parents began to protest the discriminatory practices of the Cleveland school educational system. However, the movement was greatly invigorated by the actions of United Freedom Movement, an umbrella civil rights group. For one year, the city of Cleveland was electrified by the events – both triumphs and tragedies – that unfolded around these protests.

We will explore better ways to schedule, organize your life, find bargains, get product reviews, share videos, find routes, get cheap travel, communicate with friends and family, and generally – learn how to take advantage of new Internet-based tools that are simple to use and powerful in their ability to change and improve our lifestyle. Come explore with us, and you will leave with long list of resources that will keep you occupied, improving your life, for weeks to come.
“Health Care Costs and Trends: Up, Up, UP!”
In Ohio, health care premiums rose 84 percent from 2000-2009. Why do health care costs rise seemingly inexorably? We’ll examine the impact of health insurance, technology, and lifestyle on health care costs over time and discuss how much of the cost increase is wasteful, and how much is worth it.

This interactive class explores how people remember and interpret the historical events of their lives, their communities, and their world. What is memory? How do we remember? How is memory transmitted between generations? What is the impact of gender and race in the transition of memory?
