Alumni Weekend 2010

Tony Mason '88 Addresses Black Alumni Luncheon
Miami University’s Black Alumni group did its part in keeping up with the theme of a ‘Super’ Alumni Weekend, hosting Tony Mason ’88, Senior Vice President of the Indianapolis Super Bowl XLVI Host Committee, as the featured speaker at its annual luncheon.

2009 Quadrennial Reunion

One word says it all… Wow!

What a great weekend.  Amidst the heat and humidity, there was laughter, amazement, re-acquaintance, hugs, and rekindled camaraderie.  This was our Alumni Weekend, and the Black Alumni Quadrennial Reunion.

Beginning Friday, our welcoming committee greeted our returning black alumni with smiles and information on the weekend's events.  From lectures and storytelling, engaged conversation, food, fun and family, an evening uptown at 45East to fellowship with Bethel AME; black alumni from as far away as Phoenix, Arizona, enjoyed themselves on many levels and venues.

During our Black Alumni luncheon, we introduced incoming first year student Jarrett Chance and his parents and celebrated alumna Myldred Boston-Howell, who returned for her 60th reunion.  Yes, I said 60!  Dr. Michael Dantley inspired alumni luncheon attendees to get involved with current students and the university in various activities.  The Pioneer Award was presented to both the Delta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Zeta Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc for breaking new ground.  Alumnus Wayne Dancie and Gerald Yearwood received the Sallie Smith Service Award for their service to the African American students on campus.

Our black alumni were even represented in setting the Guinness Record of Miami Mergers.

On Sunday, Bethel AME welcomed black alumni for continental breakfast and fellowship.  Black alumni presented the church with a donation for the summer camp for children with incarcerated parents—the first camp of this nature in Ohio.

Did you come back to campus this past weekend?  If so, we’d like to hear from you. Visit our social networks, we’re on Ning: Miami Black Alumni Network and LinkedIN.    Share your thoughts and pictures from this past weekend.

If you missed this weekend, you were missed!  We encourage you to also join the social networks noted above and return to this webpage and view the pictures.  Upcoming posts to the webpage will include future events and programs the BAAC will be coordinating.  We invite you to participate in these activities as well as come back to campus next year for Alumni Weekend 2010 (June 17-20)

We are looking for everyone to embrace our theme for coming events is “Each One, Bring One”.
