Alumni Band Elections
List of Candidates
- Christopher Burton ‘06
- Ben Menker ‘09
Christopher Burton ‘06 Christopher Burton is a consultant with Avalution Consulting in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to joining Avalution, Christopher spent more than two years in retail management with a Fortune 500 company after graduating with a B.S. in Marketing from Miami University in 2006. Returning to Miami University in 2009, Christopher earned his Master of Business Administration and honed his marketing and finance abilities with the world’s leading consumer goods manufacturer in addition to gaining international sales and marketing experience with a global supply chain and logistics leader in Europe.
Aside from work and school, Christopher Burton bleeds love and honor through his current involvement in the Miami University Alumni Association and Miami University Alumni Band (MUAB). In 2009, Christopher championed the rebranding of the MUAB including official polo shirts and end-of-year video tribute. As an undergraduate, Christopher was extremely involved in the Miami University Marching Band as a four year member and squad leader during which he realized numerous experiences and achievements: member of Kappa Kappa Psi; four year member of the Basketball Band; four year member of the Hockey Band; participation in the Macy’s Parade; participation in the GMAC Bowl; participation in the Independence Bowl; Student Manager of the MUMB; redesign and relaunch of the MUMB brand including logo, stationary, apparel, and website; proposal creation and award of $100,000 for new tubas; ongoing brand and image maintenance to present day.
Nicknamed “Mr. Miami”, Christopher’s diverse background of leadership and proven dedication to Miami University make him well-suited for the position of Vice President of the Miami University Alumni Band. His proven experience with social media, fundraising and event planning will enable him to significantly impact the MUAB and promote the mission of the organization while enhancing the Miami Experience for all members.
Ben Menker ‘09 In February 1987, I was born. Over the next 18 years, a few things happened. Then, in August 2005, I became a member of the MUMB. It turned out to be a fairly good decision. A mere four years and a lot of tuba playing and Otis worshipping later, I graduated and discovered that the best thing about being a member of the MUMB for a few years is that you then get to be a member of the MUAB for life! My post-Miami existence suddenly became slightly less gloomy.
In the many years that have passed since I graduated (about 0.95 years at the time of this writing, to be precise), I have lived in the Columbus area, selling Aflac (great stuff if you're worried about twisting an ankle during our rigorous MUAB rehearsals!) and working on a congressional campaign. As exciting as these activities are, I would be honored to also serve as the Vice President and, in two years, President of the Alumni Band. I hope to work toward improving the overall Alumni Band experience, growing the organization and bringing in more of our young alumni. And though I will continue to harass you via Facebook and e-mail about coming to Alumni Weekend and Homecoming regardless, it would be great to do so in an official capacity! For these reasons and many more, I hope you will grant me the honor of serving as your Vice President. Go Band!
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED.
