Nominations for the 2010 Admiral Sidney W. Souers Distinguished Alumni Award
Each year the Miami University NROTC Unit presents an award to one of its alumni who have had a distinguished career in their field of endeavor, military or civilian. This award is a memorial to Rear Admiral Sidney W. Souers, a 1914 graduate of Miami University, whose life and achievements reflect the qualities recognized by the award. In his distinguished career, Adm. Souers was successful in the business world prior to WWII. In his five years of active duty, he rose to the rank of Rear Admiral and became Deputy Chief of Naval Intelligence. At the end of the war he remained an advisor to President Truman, and became the first director of the CIA.
The award is endowed by the Souers family, and has been presented each year since 1978, most recently to Captain Loren Heckelman, retired Supply Corps Officer and now senior project manager at American Funds Service Company. Nominations may be made by anyone (family, friend, associate or self.) Nominations, in resume form, should be sent to the Souers Award Committee, Board of Directors of the NROTC Alumni Association in care of the Miami NROTC unit, Millett Hall, Room 67, Oxford OH 45056 or may be sent electronically to LT English at englistp@muohio.edu. The Board of Directors will choose the winner from all the nominees.
Nominations are due at the NROTC unit no later than 1 December 2009. Please include a resume of the nominee's military and civilian experience, as well as any awards and honors received. Community service and volunteer activities are considered as well.
Respectfully,
The Miami University NROTC Alumni Board of Directors

NROTC Mentoring Program
Did you know that there is a mentoring program for current Miami NROTC midshipmen? Have you ever thought of being a mentor for a current Miami University NROTC Midshipman? We need 1997 – 2003 Miami NROTC Navy and Marine Graduates to become mentors. And with an increasing number of female midshipmen in the Unit, there is a particular need for female mentors.
Click here to learn more about mentoring and how you can be a positive influence in a Miami University NROTC midshipmen’s life. If you would like to be a mentor, please contact Dave Miller.
