Admiral Sidney W. Souers Distinguished Alumni Award

2010 Admiral Sidney W. Souers Distinguished Alumni Award
Lt. Colonel Harlan Chapman, USMC (Ret.) is the 2010 Admiral Sidney W. Souers Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.

Each year the Miami University NROTC Unit presents an award to one of its alumni who have had a distinguished career in their field of endeavor, military or civilian.  This award is a memorial to Rear Admiral Sidney W. Souers, a 1914 graduate of Miami University, whose life and achievements reflect the qualities recognized by the award.  In his distinguished career, Adm. Souers was successful in the business world prior to WWII.  In his five years of active duty, he rose to the rank of Rear Admiral and became Deputy Chief of Naval Intelligence.  At the end of the war he remained an advisor to President Truman, and became the first director of the CIA.

The award is endowed by the Souers family, and has been presented each year since 1978.

MIAMI NROTC ALUMNI ORGANIZATION NAMES HONORARY MEMBERS

The board members of the Miami University NROTC Alumni Organization, a constituent group of the Miami University Alumni Association, recently revised our membership definition to create honorary memberships.  These memberships are extended to those individuals who have faithfully served as longtime supporters of the NROTC program at Miami.  Without the effort and support of these persons, Miami NROTC midshipmen and alumni could not have enjoyed so many successes over the years.

The following 8 honorary members will be recognized for their past and continued support of the Miami University NROTC unit at the Presidential Review on April 17, 2010.

Capt. Robert Harp USN (Ret.)

Capt. Kenneth Glass USN (Ret.)

Dr. Robert Etheridge

NROTC Mentoring Program

Did you know that there is a mentoring program for current Miami NROTC midshipmen?  Have you ever thought of being a mentor for a current Miami University NROTC Midshipman?  We need 1997 – 2003 Miami NROTC Navy and Marine Graduates to become mentors.  And with an increasing number of female midshipmen in the Unit, there is a particular need for female mentors.

Click here to learn more about mentoring and how you can be a positive influence in a Miami University NROTC midshipmen’s life.  If you would like to be a mentor, please contact Dave Miller
