Understanding the rising demands of a global workplace
Miami is joining a new national initiative called the Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP) Employer-Educator Compact. According to a report released by the Association of American Colleges and Universities, “74 percent of business and nonprofit leaders say they would recommend a 21st century liberal education to a young person they know in order to prepare for long-term professional success in today’s global economy.” >>

Public drawn to pungent petals
The titan arum, or corpse flower, located in Miami’s Belk Greenhouse is one of fewer than 200 plants that have bloomed in cultivation, according to Jack Keegan, greenhouse manager and instructor of botany. At 5 feet tall, it has attracted visitors throughout the region. >>

The 'silver tsunami'
The Scripps Gerontology Center, an Ohio Center of Excellence at Miami, has provided information about aging for more than 40 years, with a strong focus on helping Ohio plan for the economic opportunities and challenges of becoming an “old” state. >>

Quadruple major receives national recognition
James Tong Morton, a junior majoring in computer science, electrical engineering, engineering physics, and mathematics and statistics along with a minor in Chinese, is one of 271 students nationwide to receive the Goldwater Scholarship. >>
