Introducing New Ad Campaign
As a first step in its new external marketing campaign, Miami is unveiling billboards, radio advertising, print ads, and online advertising in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland. The goals are to raise awareness of Miami and its outstanding education of students and to help generate applications for the Fall 2011 incoming class. To see the advertisements, click here.
Global Plan for Liberal Education
Miami is participating in General Education for a Global Century, a curriculum and faculty development project that is part of the Association of American Colleges and Universities Shared Futures Initiative. These newly designed courses will help students obtain a global perspective and also develop their ability to communicate and act respectfully across cultural differences. Miami is one of 32 universities selected and the only Ohio public institution. Click here to view the schools selected.
Students Rally to Build School in Nepal
Miami students organized a $35,000 fundraising campaign for Room to Read, an organization that builds libraries and schools in remote corners of the globe, after being inspired by John Wood, Microsoft’s former business development director, who spoke on campus in October. By underwriting a new primary school in Nepal, Miami becomes the first undergraduate institution to build a Room to Read School.
Continuing to Improve in Sustainability
Miami has earned a B- in the College Sustainability Report Card 2011, up from a C+ last year. Published by the Sustainable Endowments Institute, the report card profiles those colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada with the 300 largest endowments, plus 22 additional schools that applied for inclusion. Converting Wind Energy One Household at a Time
A wind turbine is now operational at Miami’s Ecology Research Center (ERC). The project was a collaborative effort that began with a proposal from an engineering class to the Miami University Revolving Green Fund. The venture was a joint effort among students, the physical facilities department, and the ERC. To find out more about the research center, click here.
Excelling Inside and Outside the Classroom
Miami ranks first among all Mid-American Conference schools and higher than nine of the soon-to-be 12 Big Ten institutions in the 2010 National Collegiate Scouting Association Power Rankings, an assessment that combines athletic performance, academic achievement, and graduation rates. Overall, Miami ranks 38th in the elite group of 100 Division I colleges and universities. To review the complete list, click here.
