Annual award given to exceptional young alumni

The Miami University Alumni Association welcomes 18 outstanding individuals back to campus in October as part of the university’s annual 18 of the Last 9 Young Alumni Award.
This year’s event honors Bethany Bowyer ’10, James Cox ’14, Corrylee Drozda ’12, Kimberly Forster ’13, Jessica Gephart ’11, Brice Hamill ’03, M.Arch. ’12, Ibukun Ibraheem ’16, Austin Mace ’15, Michael Markesbery ’15, Alec Martinez ’09, Sean McVay ’08, Anna Middleton ’11, Ryan Perhala ’09, Cristina Rue ’11, Kevin Samy ’09, Sami Schalk ’08, Marisa Schnaith ’09 and Preethi Srinivas ’10. Based on the popular “30 under 30” model, the program is sponsored by the Miami University Alumni Association and recognizes 18 exceptional Miami alumni from the past nine years. Selected from a pool of more than 150 nominees, the 2017 recipients exhibit achievements and demonstrated passions in fields ranging from economic development and politics to education and technology.
“It is always a pleasure to see such an extraordinary group return to campus,” said Ray Mock, executive director of the Miami University Alumni Association. “We look forward to recognizing these exemplary young alumni for their wide scope of accomplishments as they have the opportunity to inspire and encourage another generation of Miami students.”
Honorees will be on campus Oct. 26-27 as they speak in classrooms, meet with student groups and reconnect with faculty. The 18 of the Last 9 award ceremony is Oct. 27.
Nominations for this annual event come from throughout the Miami community and focus on alumni who have started a business, been recognized in their field or made a significant influence on a movement. Started in 2013, this is the fifth edition of the 18 of the Last 9 award.
